Five Card Draw is the oldest and simplest poker variant: every player receives five private cards, exchanges the ones they do not want, and the best five-card hand wins. It is the game most people picture when they think "poker", and it is the perfect starting point before moving to Texas Hold'em.

Blinds or antes are posted, each player receives five face-down cards, and the first betting round begins. Players who stay in then choose how many cards to discard. The dealer replaces them from the deck, a second betting round follows, and the remaining players show down.
Keep any made hand from two pair upward and draw one card. With a single pair, discard three and draw. With four cards to a flush or an open-ended straight, draw one — but only when the pot odds justify it. Drawing three cards signals a weak hand, so experienced players sometimes draw two to disguise their holding.
Draw poker hides all information — you never see an opponent\'s cards until showdown, so reads come from betting patterns and draw counts.
