A typical Flip & Go tournament starts with 9 players in the flip stage, buy-in of about $3. After the flip, usually 4-5 survivors continue to the Turbo stage with a stack of about 3,000-4,000 chips (3-4x the original stack). The total prize splits between the top 2 finishers in the Turbo stage, with 1st place getting about 65% and 2nd about 35%.

Because the luck component in stage 1 is high, we recommend allocating no more than 5% of your weekly bankroll to short tournament formats like this, treating it as entertainment with positive long-term ROI rather than a primary income source. Players who want to maximize profit should play high volume (20-30 tournaments a week) so average Equity converges to the real result.

In a regular SNG every hand is played with full decision-making from hand one. In Flip & Go, the first hand is decided automatically with no decision, and all skilled play concentrates in stage 2 only. This makes the format significantly shorter — about 10-15 minutes on average versus 30-45 minutes in a regular SNG.
