Part 2
The 5 Stages of a Hand — Step by Step
Every poker hand is built from 5 stages. Understanding the order and the logic of each stage is half the game.
Pre-Flop
Pre-FlopEach player gets 2 hole cards. The first betting round starts with the player left of the big blind (UTG). Each player can fold, call or raise.
Flop
FlopThe dealer reveals 3 community cards face-up in the middle of the table. Second betting round starts with the first player left of the dealer. You can check if no bet has been made.
Turn
TurnA fourth community card is revealed. Third betting round. Each player now has 6 cards (2 hole + 4 community) to build the best hand.
River
RiverThe fifth and final community card is revealed. Final betting round — the decisions here are the most critical because no more cards are coming.
Showdown
ShowdownRemaining players show their cards. The player with the best hand wins the pot. On a tie the pot is split.

Blinds in Poker — What Are They and Why?

Small Blind
The smaller forced bet, usually half the big blind. The small blind is posted by the player to the left of the dealer — before any cards are dealt.

Big Blind
The larger forced bet — twice the small blind. Posted by the second player to the left of the dealer. The big blind is the minimum bet to stay in the hand.
Why do we need blinds? To drive the action and prevent everyone folding. The blinds rotate clockwise every hand so each player pays in turn.

Bluffing — The Art of Deception
Bluffing is the most dangerous and most rewarding tool in poker. The goal: get opponents to fold a better hand than yours by projecting confidence with aggressive betting.
A successful bluff requires: late position at the table (so you see how others act), understanding opponent types (aggressive / passive), reading pot size and overall dynamics.
Risk: if you get called you lose expensive chips. Bluffing is a spice, not a main course.

Blinds are forced bets posted before the cards are dealt to guarantee money in the pot and drive action. The small blind (player left of the dealer) is half of the big blind (next player). The blinds rotate clockwise every hand.
A bluff is a technique where you project a stronger hand than you actually hold to make opponents fold. A successful bluff requires reading your opponents, playing from late position, correctly reading the situation and confidence in the decision. The risk: if called, you lose expensive chips.
A flush is stronger than a straight. Order from strongest to weakest: Royal Flush, Straight Flush, Four of a Kind, Full House, Flush, Straight, Three of a Kind, Two Pair, Pair, High Card.
In NLH (No Limit Hold'em) you get 2 hole cards and can bet all your chips at any time (All-in). In PLO (Pot Limit Omaha) you get 4 hole cards and the maximum bet is limited to the pot size. PLO is considered more strategic with more action.
UTG is the player seated left of the big blind — the first to act in the pre-flop betting round. It is the hardest position because they play without information on the other players.
