Three Card Poker — Rules, Payouts and Strategy

Three Card Poker is a casino table game played against the dealer, not other players. Each side receives three cards, and the strongest three-card hand wins. It is fast, easy to learn, and has its own hand ranking because a straight is harder to make than a flush with only three cards.

    How a round works

You place an Ante bet and receive three cards. You then either fold, losing the ante, or place a Play bet equal to the ante. The dealer reveals their cards: if they do not hold queen high or better they do not qualify, the ante pays even money and the play bet pushes. If they qualify, the higher hand wins both bets.

Why a straight beats a flush here

With only three cards there are 1,096 possible flushes but just 720 straights, so the straight is rarer and ranks higher. This is the opposite of Texas Hold\'em and the single most common mistake new players make.

    Basic strategy

The mathematically correct rule is simple: raise with Q-6-4 or better, fold everything weaker. Following it alone brings the house edge down to roughly 3.4% on the ante-play bet. The Pair Plus side bet carries a higher house edge and should be treated as entertainment.
