What is Kicker in poker?

A kicker is the highest-ranking side card that is not part of a player's primary made hand, such as a pair, two pair, or trips. Its primary function is to serve as a tie-breaker when two or more players have an identical main hand. For instance, if two players both hold a pair of Aces, the one with the higher kicker card wins the pot. Understanding kicker implications is vital because even a strong pair can be vulnerable if your kicker is weak, often determining profitability in marginal spots and affecting hand selection preflop.

You hold AK against an opponent's AQ. On an A-9-6-5-2 board, both players have a pair of Aces, but your King kicker beats their Queen, securing the win.

Kicker (Kicker) belongs to the Hands side of the game and shows up in almost every hand of Texas Hold'em.
