What is Straddle in poker?

A straddle is an optional blind bet, usually double the big blind, placed before any cards are dealt. The player who posts the straddle acts last preflop, gaining positional advantage in the first betting round. While it inflates the pot size and increases variance, straddling is generally not mathematically profitable due to the increased investment without guaranteed hand strength. However, it can encourage more action and bigger pots, which might appeal to aggressive players or in specific game dynamics.
