A cooler is a situation in poker where two or more players are dealt premium, yet hierarchical, hands that are bound to clash, resulting in a massive pot that typically goes to the stronger of the two. Classic examples include AA running into KK pre-flop, or one player holding a full house while another has a superior full house. Unlike a 'bad beat,' where a strong hand loses to a long-shot draw, in a cooler, the losing hand was inherently very strong itself and likely played correctly. These situations are unavoidable and considered part of the game's variance, not a strategic mistake.
