What is Implied Odds in poker?

Implied odds extend pot odds beyond the current street. Instead of comparing your call only to the money already in the pot, you also estimate how much additional value you can extract from your opponent on later streets when your draw gets there. Deep stacks, opponents who pay off big bets, and well-disguised draws such as small pairs or suited connectors all raise your implied odds; short stacks, obvious boards, and cautious opponents lower them. Reverse implied odds are the mirror image: the money you expect to lose when you complete a hand that is still second best.

Pot is $40 and your opponent bets $20 with $400 behind. Calling $20 to win $60 gives you 3:1, short of the 4:1 your gutshot needs — but if you expect to win at least $60 more when you hit, the implied odds make the call profitable.
