What is Pot Odds in poker?

Pot odds represent the mathematical ratio between the amount of money you must contribute to the pot to make a call, and the total amount of money that will be in the pot if you make that call. This crucial strategic tool helps players determine if calling a bet is statistically profitable in the long run. By comparing your pot odds to your equity – the probability of hitting your winning hand – you can make informed decisions. If your equity percentage is higher than the percentage of the pot you need to call, then the call is mathematically favorable over many hands.

Pot is $100, opponent bets $50. You need to call $50 into a $150 pot, giving you 3:1 pot odds (25% equity needed). If your hand has >25% equity, it's a profitable call.
