What is Value Bet in poker?

A value bet is a wager placed with a strong hand, specifically designed to extract chips from an opponent holding a worse hand. The goal is to maximize profit by inducing calls, rather than folding out all weaker holdings. Optimal value betting requires careful sizing; the bet should be large enough to generate significant value, yet not so large that it only gets called by hands that beat you, or causes all weaker hands to fold. Understanding opponent tendencies is key to determining the largest bet size they are likely to call with their marginal hands.
