Outs represent the number of cards left in the deck that will significantly improve your hand, typically turning it into the best hand. Calculating your outs is a fundamental skill in poker, essential for making informed decisions. For instance, four cards give you a flush draw, while eight cards provide an open-ended straight draw. The 'Rule of 2 and 4' is a quick estimation tool to gauge your hand's equity: multiply your outs by 4 after the flop (for turn and river) or by 2 on the turn (for the river only). This helps you compare your chances of winning against the pot odds.
