What is Overbet in poker?

An overbet is a bet that exceeds the current size of the pot, for example, 150% of the pot or more. This aggressive sizing is typically deployed on boards where your range has a significant nut advantage, meaning you hold a disproportionate number of very strong hands compared to your opponent. Overbets are also powerful as bluffs, especially when holding blockers that reduce the likelihood of your opponent having strong calling hands. The goal is to maximize value or to generate folds from opponents with medium-strength hands.
